How do I go about purchasing replacement parts for the hovercraft.?
The exterior fan blade broke.

If you break a part (except motors, light bulbs, clays, solar cells and the like, (unless manufacturing defect is responsible for such damage, within 30 days of purchase) broken part can be mailed to Seibun USA for an exchange.

Mail us the broken part you want replaced (not the entire product, no COD’s accepted!) AND include a postage paid return self addressed envelope and a $1.65 check (U.S. Funds) for handling expenses (Don’t send cash). A new part will be on its way for as long as that part is in stock AND if there is enough postage on your return envelope. (Different conditions apply for group use such as classes, or tech. labs, tech. camps and NASA labs. etc. Groups: see below)

Send your Self-Addressed return postage paid Envelope to:

Seibun - PMB 397

Make sure to place enough postage on both your envelopes or post office will not deliver and your part will be lost.

Seibun is not responsible if your postage is inaccurate or post loses part. For current postage rates consult www.usps.com or your local post office.

What round plastic part goes on the motor and how ... ?
( Step ONE of the included instructions )

Something was lost ( or gained? ) in the process of translating the original Japanese instructions into English.  The part being referred to is the LIFT FAN.  More detailed instructions will be available soon, and will be posted in the "Documents" section of this website by 3/18/2003.

Wires will not stay attached and Hovercraft will not lift off the ground... ?

Having problems getting the wires to stay on once they are attached.
When they do stay attached the hover craft will not lift off the ground.
Any info on these two problems would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

  • You may need to bend the wires a little bit to get them to stay in place.

  • Now about the hovercraft not hovering...

Let’s first make sure the switch has been assembled properly:

When looking at the switch connectors you will see clips (tongues) that hold the wire in place on the opposite side you well see a small lip. Orientate the switch as the picture in your instructions; insert the right switch connector with the lip inside the switch body facing the clips away from the switch lever. Inside the switch body on the left side you will see an additional tab that is not illustrated in the instructions make sure that the contact end of the right connector is under it. The left connector is placed with the lip inside the switch body also but let it sit freely inside the switch body. If done correctly the right and left connectors contact will only touch when the switch lever is moved to the right (test it). When working properly, gently bend the cover into place.

Now let us make sure that the wiring has been done correctly

The wiring becomes simple once you take into concentration that there are two separate circuits that share the same switch (two batteries per motor).

Lift Motor:
• Attach red lead to battery one (right-side set) positive
• Attach black lead to battery two (right-side set) negative

Drive Motor:
• Attach red lead to battery one (left-side set) positive
• Attach black lead to battery two (left-side set) negative

Switch:
• Attach two green wires on each side of the switch
• Take one wire each from each side of the switch and attach it to the battery set on the right-side (one to battery one and the other to battery two) then do the same on the remaining pair of wires but attach them to the battery set on the left

If this does not solve the problem, try new batteries and remember that the hovercraft only hovers about the thickness of a piece of writing paper. Make sure it’s on a flat surface.

Thank you for purchasing Seibun’s Hovercraft

What are the Solar Panel, mini light bulb and socket referred to in the instructions ... ?

The Mini light bulb and solar panel are options to conduct experiments in electricity such as various types of circuits, solar/renewable energy etc. They are not included in the original kit. The solar panel is not used to power this hovercraft as it would ad too much weight.  Seibun has solar powered vehicles. They can run with solar alone (weather permitting), or with batteries.
